China Donated $2 Million And Food to Somalia for Drought-Affected People
Sunday, March 8, 2026: The Chinese government has donated $2
million in cash and food aid to Somalia to support people affected by drought
in many parts of the country.
The Chairman of the Somali National Disaster Management
Authority (SoDMA), Mahmoud Macalin Cabdulle, officially received the donation
from the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Wang Yu, at a ceremony held in
Mogadishu.
Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu said "that “the Chinese
government will continue to provide support to the Somali people, especially in
the areas of drought relief and disaster preparedness”. He also stressed the
importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the areas
of humanitarian aid and social development.
The SoDMA Chairman Mahmoud Macalin Cabdulle thanked the
Chinese government and people for their continued support for Somalia. He noted
that the donation is intended to assist people living in 72 districts in the
country's regions affected by drought, including 45 districts that are in a
state of emergency. The SoDMA Chairman indicated that this assistance will be
specifically focused on the most vulnerable people affected by the drought,
such as children, women, and poor families, to save their lives and mitigate
the impact of the drought.
This donation is part of the Chinese government's ongoing
humanitarian support to Somalia, strengthening efforts to help people affected
by the difficult conditions resulting from drought and other disasters.
