China Donated $2 Million And Food to Somalia for Drought-Affected People

Sunday, March 8, 2026: The Chinese government has donated $2 million in cash and food aid to Somalia to support people affected by drought in many parts of the country.

The Chairman of the Somali National Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA), Mahmoud Macalin Cabdulle, officially received the donation from the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Wang Yu, at a ceremony held in Mogadishu.

Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu said "that “the Chinese government will continue to provide support to the Somali people, especially in the areas of drought relief and disaster preparedness”. He also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the areas of humanitarian aid and social development.

The SoDMA Chairman Mahmoud Macalin Cabdulle thanked the Chinese government and people for their continued support for Somalia. He noted that the donation is intended to assist people living in 72 districts in the country's regions affected by drought, including 45 districts that are in a state of emergency. The SoDMA Chairman indicated that this assistance will be specifically focused on the most vulnerable people affected by the drought, such as children, women, and poor families, to save their lives and mitigate the impact of the drought.

This donation is part of the Chinese government's ongoing humanitarian support to Somalia, strengthening efforts to help people affected by the difficult conditions resulting from drought and other disasters.
