More About Biostatistics Course
importance of biostatistics
- Statistical knowledge is required to estabish the significance of difference between two groups.
- To establish validity of any method.
- To know the incidence and the prevalence rate of any disease.
- To know the vital events of human being such as birth, death, marriage, etc.
- To define the health level in the community.
Types of Biostatistics
1. Descriptive Statistics
Descriptive statistics is the branch of statistics which deals with organizing, summarizing, displaying and describing data. By descriptive statistics, we organize, summarize and present data in the form of frequency distribution, tabulation, campute the measure of central tendency (i.e. mean, median, mode) and compute measures of dispersion (i.e. mean deviation, variance and standard deviation etc).
2. Inferential Statistics
It is the branch of statistics which deals with drawing inferences or conclusions about the population based on sample data. Basically, inferential statistics utilize the mathematics of probability theory to infer or induce generalization about populations from sample data. The most commonly used inferential statistics is t test, z test, x2 test nad f test.
